The Beginning of the Salesian Province of Japan.<\/strong>
In 1923 the Rector Major of the Salesians in (Mother house in Torino) Italy were given a letter by the Papal Office asking for volunteer\u00a0 Salesians willing to take part in a missionary pastoral work in Oita and Miyazaki prefectures in Japan. At that time, these two provinces held about 1.5 million inhabitants. 300 of them were Catholics and 3 were priests.

In the same year (1923) Father Cimatti wrote to Rector Major Fr.Rinaldi, showing his deep wish to serve as a missionary for poorest and needed people.

Our most resolute conviction and belief is that our Salesian Society came from afar and that it was started by Almighty God\u2019s Providence in Japan, thanks to Father Cimatti (Venerable Fr Cimatti) who along five priests and three Salesian brothers put on board from Genoa port on December 29, 1925, and went ashore at Moji harbor on January 8, 1926.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
